FAQs

How do I get on the schedule?

We require a 50% deposit to secure a spot on the schedule.  The fastest way to get on the schedule is to reply quickly to email communication sent from IHS and send in the deposit check.

How long does it take to get on the schedule?

We typically run one to two weeks from the date that the deposit is received.  No date can be given without a deposit.

Do I need to be present at the time of installation?

Yes, you must be present when we start the project to ensure we have the correct material going in the correct area.  You also MUST be present when the job is completed to sign off on the paperwork and make final payment.

Where do I need to store my wood for hardwood flooring installations?

Wood must be inside the home in the area that it is to be installed with the HVAC operating for a period of three days.  Wood needs to acclimate to the environment and can not be stored in the garage, carport, or basement.

Can solid hardwood be glued over concrete?

Typical verbiage from a hardwood flooring manufacturer’s installation and warranty….

“Prior to installation of any hardwood flooring product, the installer must determine that the job-site environment and the sub surfaces involved, meet or exceed all requirements as stipulated in installations instructions. The hardwood declines any responsibility associated with sub surface of job-site environment deficiencies….”

Typical verbiage from a wood flooring adhesive company…

“The product is warranted provided the initial flooring installation was installed in accordance with the product instructions, the flooring manufacturer’s instructions and industry standards….”

The industry standard is set by two firms, NWFA and the NOFMA.  The standard is that no hardwood below grade is to be glued down.  Engineered hardwood only on or above grade is to be glued down.  They set two acceptable methods for installing hardwood over concrete: Glue and nail down plywood, or nail down over sleepers.  Both of these methods are discussed in their manuals.

The only person that will truly warranty your floor installation is your flooring installer.  Installing ¾” solid plank over concrete is risky at best.  Moisture content in the concrete can change with times and seasons.  If you are going to install hardwood over concrete you must use a vapor barrier.  You must use a urethane based adhesive, and you should always stay with a product no wider than 2.25”.  Moisture content in the concrete can cup the flooring and/or buckle the flooring.  We will not guarantee the hardwood against cupping or buckling due to moisture content in the concrete.

Does the estimator inspect my sub floor?

No, the final inspection of the sub floor can only be done by the installer at time of installation.  Different products have different tolerances for uneven sub floors.  At times additional labor is required to install your product.  The installer will inspect your product and your sub floor and advise.  Unfortunately the existing flooring must be removed before a final determination can be made.

Will a shoe mold or ¼ round be used over my flooring?

All hard surface floorings should have a shoe mold added.  We use the term “shoe mold” generically to describe shoe mold and or ¼ round.  The small molding that is installed at the bottom of the base mold to cover any inconsistency in the levelness of the floor and allows floating floors the needed room to expand and contract.  The installer will make the final decision on whether true shoe mold, or a ¼ round is needed to properly warranty the flooring installation.  All quotes will read shoe mold.
